espresso subscription: june 2026
For the month of June, we picked Golden Lantern as our subscription roaster because they are creating some absolutely delicious blends and single-origin coffees out of their roastery in Southern California. Every coffee we’ve tried from them has this rich, syrupy depth that makes us want to drink far too many shots of espresso in a row. Beyond the coffee itself, they’re great people, building their dream from the ground up with a lot of good intention packed into what they do.
When we asked them, “How do you want people to feel after drinking your coffee?” their response was: “Like they’ve just received a warm hug from an old friend.” who wouldn’t want to bring a little more of that feeling into their daily routine?
As they mention on their website, the crew is inspired by venturing into what Mark Twain referred to as “the territory.” In Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck says he’s going to “light out for the Territory” rather than be “civilized.” In many ways, that spirit of curiosity and stepping into the unknown is connected to what Golden Lantern is building, creating something personal and outside of the usual path.
life is short, resist convenience, take the scenic route.

Description: Asodiett is an association of over 30 coffee-producing families from Aldea Mash, Todos Santos, Huehuetenango. Each producer manages washing their coffee in traditional tanks. The cherries are depulped and fermented in water for 24 hours before being manually washed and moved to dry on patios for 10-12 days. The cooperative was an initiative of community leader Macario Calmo, born from the need for financial aid for the community to continue the production of coffee and to provide for their families.

Description: Dubbed Golden Lanter’s “signature” or “house espresso”, we created Northern Lights to be that perfect balance between a modern and traditional espresso profile. A journey through chocolate, nuts, fruit, and citrus, its deemed an overall crowd pleaser that works great on its own but cuts nicely through any milk choice.
Brewing Recipe
Dose: 19 Grams
Time: 30 Seconds

Temperature: 200 F
Pressure: 9 Bar
Pre-infusion: 5-10 Seconds
Additional Notes: For a more modern shot, pull around 36-38g out in 30 seconds or under to add pleasant brightness. For those looking for a smooth, well rounded shot, aim for 40g in 30-40 seconds.
Dialogue with the roaster : Matt Rosenblum
La Marzocco Home “Why the name Golden Lantern?
Matt Rosenblum “Like many roasters who came before, we started this business right out of our garage here in Southern California. In the most literal sense, Golden Lantern was our street that we would frequently take down to the ocean. It runs parallel to the highway, but offers a slower, more scenic route, rewarding you with a beautiful ocean view as you make your way into Dana Point. That journey acts as an analogy for our journey in coffee. Life is short, resist convenience, take the scenic route.”
La Marzocco Home “If Golden Lantern was a band, what genre would it be?”
Matt Rosenblum “Oh man, I’d have to say some kind of sophisticated indie rock band like The National. It’s moody and unpredictable. You can spend hours trying to analyze the deep lyrics of Matt Berninger, or just enjoy them at face value, much like coffee.”
La Marzocco Home “What was it like getting your coffee program started?
Matt Rosenblum Back in the early days, it was completely fun, exploratory, and felt like the possibilities were endless. In the present day, we still maintain those values while making smart and ethical business decisions. In my opinion, the most valuable lessons come from partnering with people who share similar values and philosophy. The mutual connection will be a catalyst for your joint success.
