The year has begun, and it’s a good moment to gently reset.
A few thoughtful changes, some refined habits, and a renewed focus on the rituals that make brewing espresso at home something to look forward to.
Coffee already anchors our mornings. Here are seven simple coffee rituals to bring into the New Year, designed to add more ease, enjoyment, and creativity to everyday routines.

1. Set Up a Coffee Corner That Sparks Joy
How do you want your coffee corner to feel?
Again, we aren’t talking a full renovation. A few thoughtful touches can completely change how a space feels. Clear the clutter, add a plant, hang a piece of art, or finally retire that mug you grimace at or hide in the back. Your coffee corner should feel like a place you want to interact with – sometimes that means simplify, sometimes that means add a little bit more.
Idea: Frame a home coffee menu to hang on the wall or place next to your machine.
When you look at your coffee corner you should not think it looks perfect, you should think “this feels like me.”

2. Create a Simple Cleaning Routine (You’ll Actually Do)
A clean coffee setup makes better coffee.
Keep it easy:
- Start with a quick wipe-down after your last shot.
- Backflush once a week.
- A deeper clean once a month. This could be when you remove your dispersion screen and screw to clean. Dust your grinder off and wipe the top of your machine. You could also drain your steam boiler if its been a while.
Tip: If you use the La Marzocco App, the cleaning button does all the work for you!

3. Build a Mindful Morning Coffee Routine
A new way to begin the day.
For five minutes, don’t check your phone. Don’t rush. Watch the espresso pour. Smell the coffee. Read or listen to something while you sip.
It’s a small pause, but it sets the tone for the rest of the day. Consider it your daily reset button and have fun with it!

4. Choose a Signature Drink for the Year
Blow yourself way with how well you master a drink of your choice.
Just like a go-to outfit, your coffee order can be comforting in its consistency. Pick one drink to master this year, maybe an undertow, an americano, or a perfectly balanced flat white.
Dial it in. Learn it well. Make it your drink.

5. Try a New Roaster
Feeling comfortable with your coffee routine? Maybe it’s time to shake things up!

6. Pour One Latte Art Design Every Day for a Month
This one is about refining your barista skills.
Pick one design: a heart, a tulip, or something slightly ambitious…like a swan? Then commit to pouring it once a day for a month.
You’ll be surprised how quickly muscle memory kicks in. Progress feels good, especially when we can drink our mistakes and they taste just as delicious!

7. Make Your Own Simple Syrup
A wonderful way to enjoy a little something extra in our morning cup.
Homemade syrup sounds fancy, but it’s incredibly easy. Start with a basic simple syrup and add a concentrate or flavor you love, vanilla, orange peel, or cinnamon and cardamom mixed together.
Simple Syrup Recipe:
- 1 cup simmering water
- 1 cup brown or white sugar
- 1 tsp extract
It’s a small upgrade that makes everyday drinks feel special, without turning your kitchen into even more of a science lab.
Let’s bring in the new year!
These small upgrades aren’t about complicating things, they’re about doing what you already love, a little more intentionally.
Here’s to a year of better coffee, slower mornings, and rituals that actually stick.
