A Cozy Spiced Drink To Make at Home

Welcome Autumn 2026

To celebrate the start of fall, La Marzocco Home partnered with Broadsheet Coffee Roasters for a special Open House event in Boston celebrating the kickoff of the turning of the seasons. For the event, the Broadsheet team created a seasonal espresso drink inspired by the flavors of fall and designed to be made on a La Marzocco Home machine. There was just one thing missing: a name. As part of the Open House, guests had the chance to taste the drink and vote on what it should be called. After the votes were counted, Spiced Pear Sparkler was officially chosen as the name of our fall creation.

We loved the drink so much that we wanted to share the recipe with you. Whether you’re hosting friends or just making something special for yourself, here’s how to recreate a little piece of our Boston Open House at home.

The Spiced Pear Sparkler

Spiced Pear Syrup Ingredients

  • 550 grams chopped Asian pears
  • 350 grams brown sugar
  • 50 grams frozen apple concentrate
  • 350 grams water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 star anise
  • 2 teaspoons ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 8 cloves
  • 25-30 grams lemon juice

Making The Spiced Pear Syrup

Total cook time will be about 30 minutes.

Combine the chopped pears, brown sugar, frozen apple concentrate, and water in a pot. Simmer for 15 minutes.

Add spices, turn heat to low and let cook on low for 8 minutes.  Remove the cinnamon stick, star anise, and cloves. Using a blender or food processor, puree the mixture. Strain through a fine mesh sieve.

Add the lemon juice and stir to incorporate. Once cooled, the syrup can be bottled. Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Building The Spiced Pear Sparkler

Add 60 grams of spiced pear syrup to a small glass.

Pull an 18g in / 40g out / 35 sec double shot of espresso directly over the syrup and stir until combined.

Fill a 12oz glass with ice, then top with 6oz of seltzer. Pour the espresso and pear syrup mixture on top and watch it cascade down the cup.

Add a pinch of salt (optional) and gently stir to incorporate.

Finish with a thin slice of fresh or dehydrated apple or pear for garnish.

The result is a refreshing, coffee-forward fall drink with cooked pear, brown sugar, cinnamon, and espresso. We also loved that it feels very New England. Even when the weather starts to cool down, the Northeast is still serious about iced coffee, so this felt like a fun way to bring those fall flavors into something cold and easy to drink.
