La Marzocco, in partnership with Acaia, today announced a new upgrade path that enables owners of compatible Acaia Lunar scales to unlock La Marzocco Connected Scale functionality through a simple firmware update.

Beginning March 23, 2026, the La Marzocco app (v1.7.0) and Acaia app will guide users through the upgrade process. Compatible scale owners can purchase a €100 license that installs new firmware via the Acaia app, enabling brew-by-weight and grind-by-weight functionality with the Linea Mini and Pico.

Key Features

Brew-by-weight: The machine stops the shot automatically when the target weight is reached.

Grind-by-weight: The grinder stops dosing when the target weight is reached.

Dual dose targets: Set and save separate weight targets for brewing and grinding.

Auto-tare: The scale automatically zeros at the start of each operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my Acaia Lunar compatible?

The upgrade is available for Acaia Lunar scales with a USB-C charging port and serial number AL008XXXXXXXX or newer. Older Lunar models with a Micro-USB port are not compatible due to hardware differences and legacy electronics. The simplest way to check is to look at the bottom of the scale—if you see a USB-C port, it’s eligible.

How much does it cost?

The upgrade license is €100 (may vary slightly by region). For reference, the La Marzocco Connected Scale retails for approximately $400.

How do I upgrade?

Open the La Marzocco app (v1.7.0 or later), add your Acaia Lunar to your coffee station, and follow the prompts. The app will direct you to the Acaia app to complete the license purchase and firmware installation. The whole process takes about five minutes. For step-by-step instructions, see our full setup guide.

Which machines does it work with?

The Connected Scale functionality works with the Linea Mini espresso machine and the Pico grinder, allowing the scale, machine, and grinder to work together seamlessly.

Does my espresso machine need an update too?

Yes. Before upgrading the scale, the espresso machine requires a gateway firmware update so it can communicate with the upgraded scale. This update is delivered through the La Marzocco app and will be available before launch day.

Can I use two scales?

Yes. Many home setups use two scales—one on the drip tray for brew-by-weight and another under the grinder for grind-by-weight. Each scale requires its own license. During training, only one scale can be powered on at a time. Once both are trained, they operate simultaneously. See the full setup guide for detailed instructions.

Who do I contact for support?

Support is shared between both companies. For scale hardware, firmware, or upgrade issues, contact Acaia directly. For La Marzocco app, machine integration, or equipment issues, contact La Marzocco.

The upgrade is available beginning March 23, 2026 for compatible Acaia Lunar scales (USB-C, serial AL008XXXXXXXX or newer). The license is €100 (may vary slightly by region).
